Beyonce vs. Shane Mercado

I've been hearing about this youtube video for a while now, and I finally saw the video in a way it could relate to my blog... The Bonnie Hunt Show *1st time appearing on my blog :)* featured a young man by the name of Shane Mercado doing Beyonce's "Single Ladies" dance.

Click HERE to check it out and judge who did the best!

Here's what I think....
I am definitely not a big fan, or a fan at all of Beyonce. I just don't care for her very much and I think she gets a lot of credit to not be that good of a singer, dancer, or actress. But, not to be biased or anything, I definitely thought homeboy did a way better job with the dance than she did. It's just that he seemed to have put more into it than she did.

But that's just my opinion... what do you think?

Ridiculous School Discipline

Honestly, this blog was going to be about a Tyra show this week. But Dr. Phil's show on Friday quickly changed my mind. On the show, he talked about school discipline getting out of control. Remember being paddled in elementary or middle school? Or remember just simply being sentenced to a week of detention, missing recess, or being suspended for 5 days? Well how about being locked in a room by your teacher? Or being verbally abused by your teacher? Or being stripped searched by your teacher?

Click HERE for more about the show.

Here's what I think....
I don't care what happens in a school. The only discipline that should be enforced is some kind of detention or something of that nature. But (excuse the slang) I'll be hot dern if anybody from any school is going to lock my child in a room, verbally abuse my child, hit my child, or strip search them as a form of punishment. I'd be raising straight hell in that school system. That is just ridiculous for schools to allow that to happen. I remember my 1st year in middle school, my principal was on the news for paddling a student. Up to that point, I thought schools stopped paddling. All I know is whoever did those horrible things to those students need a beating too!

Holidays = Family Drama

So... I always wondered why the holidays were sometimes dreaded by people, especially people with large families. After watching The Dr. Phil show today, I now understand why. Holidays equal family drama!

Click HERE to see the family drama that was on the show!

Here's what I think...
I guess my immediate family knows all about the drama that comes with holidays, so we avoid large crowds for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our holidays consist of small gatherings with close family members (mainly the 6 of us who live in the house). Things just seem more peaceful that way because if the entire family were to get together, we have enough untold drama to last us from here to all eternity. As for the family from the show, I think it's ridiculous how the supposedly head-of-household (the father) is the one who starts the drama! First of all, he is too big for that.... second of all, he really should know better! That family should definitely take a clue from mine and just either celebrate holidays without the drama-king, or don't celebrate them at all!

But that's just my opinion... what do you think?

Medical Mysteries

On Tuesday, Oprah had Dr. Oz on the show to talk about medical mysteries. The mysteries included a boy that won't stop growing, a rare case of dwarfism, and a woman who remembers every single day from 1980 to right now.

Click HERE to check out a slide show of these incredible medical mysteries.

Here's what I think....
I am just amazed at any and all medical mysteries. If it's different from the norm, I am completely amazed. I have no idea why; that's just the way I am.

But that's just my opinion... what do you think??

T.I. - Not Your Average Rapper

I did not consider myself a definite T.I. fan. I never held anything against him and I always found it confusing that at times he'd be T.I., other times he'd be T.I.P. I liked him more after seeing him in the movie ATL, even more after hearing his song "Whatever You Like" and "Live Your Life," but after seeing him on the Tyra Banks Show this morning, it's become official....T.I. is definitely added to the list of my most favored rappers.

Click here to check out the fast-forwarded version on the Tyra-T.I. interview.

Here's what I think....
You have your "gangsta" rappers... Young Jeezy, Busta Rhymes, Lil John... definitely club music.
You have your "playful" rappers... Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, Ludacris....every now and then, a lyric makes you laugh and you constantly say it over and over and over.
You have your "soulful" rappers... Kanye West (my fav.), Jay-Z, T-Pain ....you can count on their lyrics to mean something powerful.

And then there's T.I.... gangsta, playful, and soulful....wrapped all in one, and need I remind you....all the swagga and sexy needed to last a lifetime! What more can a rap lover ask for???

But that's just my opinion....what do you think?

Pet Peeves About Talk Shows

Tyra Banks Show - If you all hadn't noticed, I probably watch this show the most. I find it very entertaining because Tyra is usually a pretty entertaining talk show host. However, it just aggravates me that she has to relate her life to the life of every guest that appears on her show. All of what she says cannot be true. For instance, one show about less-fortunate families, she expressed that her childhood was limited to Wal-Marts and Dollar Trees and never got what she wanted. BUT, on a another show aired less than a week later about spoiled children, she expressed that her family was pretty loaded growing up and she basically got anything she wanted... so Tyra, what's really the deal??

Dr. Phil Show - I usually only watch this show when it's about a topic I feel really strongly about or when I am in the mood for being entertained by ridiculous people. However, it really irritates me that sometimes Dr. Phil gives advice that ought not to be given. For example, disciplining a child with a firm hand causes a child to be afraid of a parent. Uhh... not really. I know no other form of discipline but a firm hand...and occasionally a firm belt. It wasn't that I was necessarily afraid of my parents because of that, I was afraid of doing what I did wrong again. That's the whole idea behind discipline I thought.

The Maury Show - Honestly, I only watch this when nothing else is on TV and I want to see people embarrass themselves. What aggravates me the most about this show is that you are almost certain to hear the words "you are the father" or "you are not the father"..... or "the lie detector test has proven...". Come on Maury, give us something new, PLEASE!!!!

But.... those were just my opinions. What do you think??

Forced To Be A Father

On today's Dr. Phil show, there was a heated debate on the responsibilites of a father when a child is born out of wedlock. Should the father have as much responsibility as the mother? Should the father use the excuse of not knowing about the child before its birth to not be an adequate father? Should the father not have to pay to support the child or should they not have to do any more than pay child support?

Click here for more information about the show.

Here's what I think....
Ok ladies.... if you're going to have a baby out of wedlock, PLEASE inform the person that got you pregnant that you are indeed pregnant. And PLEASE make sure that the person you are informing is indeed the CORRECT person that got you pregnant. Sometimes, I blame women for the men not stepping up as fathers because some women fail to inform the men that they will be fathers in the beginning. Instead, they decide to wait until the child is born and realize that they can start collecting child support. Then, when the father starts to support the child, it's never enough. The woman is almost never satisfied and fails to realize that his responsibilty is to take care of the child, not to take care of her and the child. IT'S NOT A MARRIAGE JUST BECAUSE YALL HAVE A CHILD TOGETHER! All in all, when women get their stuff together, men will eventually fall in line.
On the other hand, if the woman does her part in letting the man know in a timely manner, that man has absolutely no excuse to not be there and provide for that child like he should. In or out of wedlock does not matter, she's still that child's mother and he's still that child's father...plain and simple. Support just doesn't come in monetary value. It's also emotional and physical. You're man enough to make a baby, be man enough to take care of it.

Caring Moms with Daring Jobs

How would you feel if your mother prostituted and exploited her body for money to provide for the family?? Tyra Banks did an entire show on the topic, and like society always does, every mother that took part in the show was judged by audience members, and even Tyra herself.

Click here for a short detailed description of the show and to read what viewers thought.

Here's what I think....
My anger towards my mother would be a short-term (not that she does it or anything, I'm just saying). I don't think there's anything wrong with a mother doing what she needs to do to provide for her family. However, I don't think that a mother should tell her kids not to do something of that nature when she does it herself. No one deserves to be judged, and although it's true that prostitution and stripping isn't the best or only way of making money, it is a way to make money and in all honesty, a lot of money can be made that way. Now I wouldn't make it my goal to prostitute or strip for a living, but I look at it this way.... society is going to judge you rather you decide to strip or prostitute to provide for your family, or if you just live check by check and barely provide for them.

Forgiveness Is A Wonderful Gift

I'm not a fan of the Oprah Show. But when I saw the preview for last Monday's show, I couldn't resist the temptation of watching it because it shocked me so much! A man planned and played out the murder of a family (mother, father, and 2 children). The father and one of the sons survived. On his wife's and son's death bed, the father promised to forgive the person who killed his family. But who would've thought that the surviving son would've been the one to commit such vicious murders.

Click HERE for the rundown of the show.

Here's what I think....
For someone to be able to forgive someone for killing his family is just a wonderful person. Shucks, being able to forgive anyone for anything is just a wonderful gift. I know I've held grudges for a long time over simple things that hurt me, but a murder...? Gosh, I'd probably hold that grudge and take it with me to my grave! I know it's a bad thing to do because forgiveness is one key to freedom. I've recently forgave my daddy for putting me through hell growing up and it felt like 250lbs was lifted off of my heart. It took a while and a behind-load of courage, but I did it! I commend the man for forgiving his son for doing such a horrible thing against his family.

The Teen Pregnancy Epidemic

On a recent episode of the Tyra Banks Show, there were a panel of about 8 or so teens who had either already been pregnant, wanting to get pregnant, or already had children. I know that when you think of teens and pregnancy, you tend to focus more on ages 16-19, but these teenagers peaked at age 14 with the youngest of them being 12. Crazy huh???

Click here for more info or to read what other viewers thought about the show.

Here's what I think...
I'm 20, about to be 21 in about 7 months. I've never been pregnant, nor do I plan on getting pregnant anytime soon. Not necessarily because I'm waiting until marriage or I'm waiting to finish college. It's mainly because I am not nearly ready for a baby. I don't understand why teenagers think they're ready to have kids. One girl on the show even said that she wants a baby so that she can have fun at a baby shower.... that's just ridiculous!! My mom had a baby as a teen and although I think she is just superbly wonderful for being able to keep things together, I just don't think I have the strength to do the same!

"The View" on The Debate

If you are someone who watches The View regularly, then you would know that anything of big importance that happens will be discussed. So of course, they discussed the Presidential Debate on their show today.

Click here to watch what they had to say.

Here's what I think....
Honestly, I am not a big fan of this year, or any year's Presidential Debates, or even politics in general. Although I would like to see a change and would love seeing Obama in the White House, I am just ready for this election to be over with. So, I don't really have anything to say about who won or did the best during the debate. Really, I just blogged about it because other people are very interested in this sort of thing.

But that's just my opinion...what do you think?

Talented Twins & Triplets

I was watching the Maury Show a couple days ago and the show featured twins and triplets whom were showing off their talents. Some of the talents were not new to national television. The Brittenaum Twins auditioned for American Idol last year (I think....or maybe the year before last) and Sean & John competed at and won more than once at the Apollo Theater. Overall, the talents (5 in total) were great, but to me, one talent stood out the most.

Click HERE to check out the talents and pick which one is your favorite!

Here's what I think....
I pretty much applaud anyone who can sing and sound great while doing it. I pride myself in being a very good singer, so it's easy for me to judge someone on their singing. However, out of the singers that showed off their talent, none of them did a superb job to me. 2TooCute was indeed too, too cute, but not cute enough to be considered superbly talented (although at that age, many may think they are). The tap dancers caught my heart since I saw them on Apollo, and I honestly think that tap dancing is a wonderful talent. If the winner was left solely up to me, I'd pick Sean & John.

But that's just my opinion...what do you think??

The N-Word Debate

In the words of Dr. Phil...
"Can the N-word be used as a term of endearment when it has such a poisonous root?"

Also expressing their opinions on this very controversial issue this morning on the Dr. Phil Show was actor Hill Harper, Civil Rights activist Rev. Al Sharpton, and comedians Sheryl Underwood and Paul Mooney. The debate got very heated when different races from the audience brought up the issue of racism to the debate against the panel made of all African Americans...

Click HERE for further details of the show!

Here's what I think....
Black, white, purple, green.... I have a name. It's Samone. I don't care if we homies, cool with each other, or of the same race, DON'T CALL ME THE N-WORD! I don't care how, when, and where you use it with or referring to other people, but don't use it when referring to me.

As a black person, I find it very RIDICULOUS that we use that word so freely but get so offended when other races use it against us! I was always taught that if you can comfortably consider yourself to be a certain thing, someone else calling you that shouldn't be a problem to you.

But frankly, if a word can be used offensively, it shouldn't be used at all. If EVERYONE of EVERY RACE can't use a word safely, it shouldn't be used at all. That philosophy of mine goes for every and any word, and for those reasons, I don't use the n-word.

But that's just my opinion. What do you think??

Fat-Sploitation

Yesterday, I was watching the Tyra Banks Show and the topic was "Fat-Sploitation". The show was very interesting because I was shocked to see that there were so many plus-sized (very plus-sized) women who have a lot of confidence in themselves. Some model lingerie, some make sexy videos for the web. It felt great watching the show, but anger started to build as more and more smaller-sized women stood up to express their non-supportive opinions.

Click HERE to read further details about the show.

Here are my thoughts...
No thin, skinny, whatever you want to consider them, person is going to tell me I look disgusting because I'm not a size 2 or 4. Who cares? Yeah, overweight people may be unhealthy, but who's to say that all skinny people are healthy? And frankly, the insistance on being thin makes people diet in unhealthy way, create dangerous eating disorders, and crazy nonsense like that. I mean, I'm not super plus-sized like the women on the show, but I'm not thin either. I mean, I'm content with being a size 18 (even though size 14's are easier to find and cheaper). No, I don't go around exploiting my body in any way, shape, or form...I don't think anyone, any size should. But if you have that much confidence in yourself to not care what others say and you help in giving full-figured women, like me, the confidence to love yourself despite what society says, then go ahead girl!

But that's just my opinion....what do you think?
