New Semester = New Blogs

Hello all! Sam-1 is back and ready to blog... well not really, but as long as I'm in MCOM classes (2 classes to be exact), I may as well function with a MCOM state of mind. :)

Last semester of blogging brought about topics concerning talk shows with shows ranging from The Tyra Banks Show to The View. This semester, I'll be blogging about something similar, but still different.

Reality shows, including competition shows, are like talk shows in that both are not really scripted. However, reality shows bring its audience more drama, excitement, and more to talk about when the show has gone off. This blog will discuss shows like BET's The T.O. Show and Frankie and Neffe, E!'s Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, MTV's America's Best Dance Crew, Bravo's (but showing on Lifetime) Project Runway, and much more.

For more information on each show that I have named, click its name to be directed to its Web site.

I hope that you enjoy my blogs just as much as I will enjoy writing them.

Beyonce vs. Shane Mercado

I've been hearing about this youtube video for a while now, and I finally saw the video in a way it could relate to my blog... The Bonnie Hunt Show *1st time appearing on my blog :)* featured a young man by the name of Shane Mercado doing Beyonce's "Single Ladies" dance.

Click HERE to check it out and judge who did the best!

Here's what I think....
I am definitely not a big fan, or a fan at all of Beyonce. I just don't care for her very much and I think she gets a lot of credit to not be that good of a singer, dancer, or actress. But, not to be biased or anything, I definitely thought homeboy did a way better job with the dance than she did. It's just that he seemed to have put more into it than she did.

But that's just my opinion... what do you think?

Ridiculous School Discipline

Honestly, this blog was going to be about a Tyra show this week. But Dr. Phil's show on Friday quickly changed my mind. On the show, he talked about school discipline getting out of control. Remember being paddled in elementary or middle school? Or remember just simply being sentenced to a week of detention, missing recess, or being suspended for 5 days? Well how about being locked in a room by your teacher? Or being verbally abused by your teacher? Or being stripped searched by your teacher?

Click HERE for more about the show.

Here's what I think....
I don't care what happens in a school. The only discipline that should be enforced is some kind of detention or something of that nature. But (excuse the slang) I'll be hot dern if anybody from any school is going to lock my child in a room, verbally abuse my child, hit my child, or strip search them as a form of punishment. I'd be raising straight hell in that school system. That is just ridiculous for schools to allow that to happen. I remember my 1st year in middle school, my principal was on the news for paddling a student. Up to that point, I thought schools stopped paddling. All I know is whoever did those horrible things to those students need a beating too!

But that's just my opinion....what do you think??

Holidays = Family Drama

So... I always wondered why the holidays were sometimes dreaded by people, especially people with large families. After watching The Dr. Phil show today, I now understand why. Holidays equal family drama!

Click HERE to see the family drama that was on the show!

Here's what I think...
I guess my immediate family knows all about the drama that comes with holidays, so we avoid large crowds for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Our holidays consist of small gatherings with close family members (mainly the 6 of us who live in the house). Things just seem more peaceful that way because if the entire family were to get together, we have enough untold drama to last us from here to all eternity. As for the family from the show, I think it's ridiculous how the supposedly head-of-household (the father) is the one who starts the drama! First of all, he is too big for that.... second of all, he really should know better! That family should definitely take a clue from mine and just either celebrate holidays without the drama-king, or don't celebrate them at all!

But that's just my opinion... what do you think?

Medical Mysteries

On Tuesday, Oprah had Dr. Oz on the show to talk about medical mysteries. The mysteries included a boy that won't stop growing, a rare case of dwarfism, and a woman who remembers every single day from 1980 to right now.

Click HERE to check out a slide show of these incredible medical mysteries.

Here's what I think....
I am just amazed at any and all medical mysteries. If it's different from the norm, I am completely amazed. I have no idea why; that's just the way I am.

But that's just my opinion... what do you think??

T.I. - Not Your Average Rapper

I did not consider myself a definite T.I. fan. I never held anything against him and I always found it confusing that at times he'd be T.I., other times he'd be T.I.P. I liked him more after seeing him in the movie ATL, even more after hearing his song "Whatever You Like" and "Live Your Life," but after seeing him on the Tyra Banks Show this morning, it's become official....T.I. is definitely added to the list of my most favored rappers.

Click here to check out the fast-forwarded version on the Tyra-T.I. interview.

Here's what I think....
You have your "gangsta" rappers... Young Jeezy, Busta Rhymes, Lil John... definitely club music.
You have your "playful" rappers... Soulja Boy, Lil Wayne, Ludacris....every now and then, a lyric makes you laugh and you constantly say it over and over and over.
You have your "soulful" rappers... Kanye West (my fav.), Jay-Z, T-Pain ....you can count on their lyrics to mean something powerful.

And then there's T.I.... gangsta, playful, and soulful....wrapped all in one, and need I remind you....all the swagga and sexy needed to last a lifetime! What more can a rap lover ask for???

But that's just my opinion....what do you think?

Pet Peeves About Talk Shows

Tyra Banks Show - If you all hadn't noticed, I probably watch this show the most. I find it very entertaining because Tyra is usually a pretty entertaining talk show host. However, it just aggravates me that she has to relate her life to the life of every guest that appears on her show. All of what she says cannot be true. For instance, one show about less-fortunate families, she expressed that her childhood was limited to Wal-Marts and Dollar Trees and never got what she wanted. BUT, on a another show aired less than a week later about spoiled children, she expressed that her family was pretty loaded growing up and she basically got anything she wanted... so Tyra, what's really the deal??

Dr. Phil Show - I usually only watch this show when it's about a topic I feel really strongly about or when I am in the mood for being entertained by ridiculous people. However, it really irritates me that sometimes Dr. Phil gives advice that ought not to be given. For example, disciplining a child with a firm hand causes a child to be afraid of a parent. Uhh... not really. I know no other form of discipline but a firm hand...and occasionally a firm belt. It wasn't that I was necessarily afraid of my parents because of that, I was afraid of doing what I did wrong again. That's the whole idea behind discipline I thought.

The Maury Show - Honestly, I only watch this when nothing else is on TV and I want to see people embarrass themselves. What aggravates me the most about this show is that you are almost certain to hear the words "you are the father" or "you are not the father"..... or "the lie detector test has proven...". Come on Maury, give us something new, PLEASE!!!!

But.... those were just my opinions. What do you think??
